We lived on a dead end street where kids felt safe to play. Except for the crane yard at the end we rarely had trucks passing by. My toddler wanted to join the other kids but at 3 years old I didn't trust her to look first & be aware of any dangers. I had to find a way to keep her from running out in the road. Many Mom's have this problem. You can keep them on a harness but I would rather use them on my dog then on my daughter. So one day I found a solution to keeping my active child out of traffic. It wasn't planned but the opportunity was there. A dead cat all flattened out like a "sailcat" ( you can throw like a frisby) laid there in the road. I brought my daughter by the hand & let her take a real close look. I said, "See what can happen when you play in the road. " I never needed to worry about her running in the street again.
