A neighbor once told us about one time when they were driving to a family gathering, and their infant started crying. They figured he was hungry, but they were in a bit of a rush.
"So we decided to breastfeed as we drove. My husband was driving, of course!"
We were stupefied that this safety-conscious mother would even consider taking her baby out of their carseat while the car was in motion. I guess our looks conveyed our thoughts, because she continued, "Oh, you've got the wrong idea. Of course we kept the baby IN the car seat. It was very uncomfortable. We've never tried it again!"
As the mental picture sank in, I think we were even more stunned...
