I have had the opportunity to be daughter, military wife, mother and grandmother all at the same time.

My active duty husband was on a remote assignment to South Korea. I had been the primary caregiver to my mother prior to our marriage, so Mom lived with us as well. And, I had a young son, who has some special needs and challenges due to prematurity.

My daughter was also married to an active duty service member, and we were blessed in being on the same base! They had a daughter which I had cared for since she was 1 month old, while they both worked, and my daughter took college courses at night.

My granddaughter was at that wonderful age, where she would not remain seated in the shopping cart, and would throw out things that got put into the basket. And, I needed to go shopping, and did not have any one for 'respite care' at that time.

At the store, I pushed Mom's wheelchair in front of me, and pulled 2 linked shopping carts with my granddaughter in the rear cart, and my 8 year-old son behind her, to make sure she stayed in her cart so I could load the cart with groceries behind me.
