My son is almost 13, and he has a mind of his own, to say the least! It's a constant battle, establishing my parenthood with him. He's also ADHD and he demands a lot of attention. One night, after about 100 times of hearing him call my name to look at him, I said, "Why do you have to have my constant attention! I've already seen you do that 10 times!"
Before he could think it through, he spoke his truth to me.
"Because you're so cool."
I paused. Then I paused a second more. I could see his realization upon speaking come over his face, so before he could deny or leave, I said quietly, "What did you say? Did I hear you right?"
"Nothing! Mom, I didn't say anything!"
"No, you did. I heard what you said. You think I'm cool!! You think I'm cool!!"
And on it went. It was a victory parade for me and a total victory for all moms that day.
